#Maa Durga:
Goddess Durga means "unconquerable" in Sanskrit. The syllable "du" is synonymous with the 4 devils of poverty, sufferings, famine and evil habits. The "r" refers to diseases and the "ga" is the destroyer of sins, injustice, irreligion, cruelty and laziness. As the Mother of the universe, she personifies tender love, wealth, power, beauty and all virtues. As Shakti (power), she shapes, nurtures, and dissolves names and forms. As the subtle spiritual energy called "Kundalini", she lights the lotuses of the seven centers of awareness in the sacred human body.#

#Symbolism:
The entire persona of goddess Durga riding a lion represents destruction of evil and protection of good. That in order to become divine, one should keep animal instincts of oneself under control. Gorgeously dressed in royal red clothes, she adorns dazzling ornaments. Also known as Simhavahini- she who stands astride the king of beasts. The varied weapons in all the hands of Devi Durga suggest the power, supremacy, and honour of women, reflecting the distinguished supremacy that helps in controlling the universe and obey Her will.#
